Help keep this going

Marrowtype is supported by readers. There is no parent company writing the cheques. There are no sponsored articles. There is no paywall. If the work is useful to you, the most direct way to keep it going is to chip in.

Support is not active yet.

We're setting up our Ko-fi page. Until then, the most useful thing you can do is share a piece you found valuable with one other person. That's how this kind of site grows.

Where the money goes

  • The domain. Annual renewal, low double-digits.
  • The email service. The newsletter provider when we hit the free-tier ceiling.
  • Time. The writing itself, when reader income lets us spend a Saturday on a piece instead of on something else.
  • Subscriptions to the things we cite. Some sources are behind paywalls. We pay for them so the article can.

We don't run paid software. We host on free tiers everywhere we can. The site itself costs us about the price of a lunch per year to operate. The rest is time.

Other ways to help

If you can't or don't want to give money, here are things that move the project more than they look like they should:

  • Send a piece to one specific person who would want to read it.
  • Subscribe to the RSS feed or the newsletter. Both signal real audience to us.
  • Write to us when we get something wrong. The corrections culture only works if you participate.
  • Link to articles you found useful. Inbound links are how new readers find us.

What we won't do for money

We will not run sponsored content. We will not run affiliate links inside articles. We will not change a conclusion in a piece because a subject or an advertiser asked. We will not name supporters in a way that suggests they have editorial influence. These are commitments we keep separately from whether we accept your support.

Whether or not you ever support us, thank you for reading.
